What to Expect

Templo Romano de Evora (Templo de Diana)
The Roman Temple in Évora, is one of the grandest and best preserved Roman temples in the entire Iberian Peninsula, having been considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986. It is the city’s ex-libris, a kind of visiting card , as well known as the Chapel of Bones.

Capela dos Ossos
The Capela dos Ossos (Chapel of Bones) is a spectacularly morbid celebration of death and onde of Évora’s most popular attractions. Located within the Gothic church of São Francisco, the Chapel of Bones is everything its name suggests. It is estimated that there are over 5,000 skulls decorating the chapel many of which were dug up from the many monastic cemeteries in the area. Apparently the cemeteries were taking up too much space and the idea of moving the bones to a single consecrated space came before one 16th century monk spotted an opportunity to transmit the message of the inevitability of death and transience of out existence.

Cathedral of Evora (Se Catedral de Evora)
It is the largest medieval cathedral in Portugal and has no parallel in the rest of the country. The Cathedral of Évora “protects” the city from the highest part, the place chosen for other iconic buildings in Évora such as the Roman Temple of Évora (Temple of Diana), the Museum of Évora or the Center of Art and Culture Eugénio de Almeida
